Which brings me to the actual question: What would you suggest as the best liquid sealant for the crankcase halves? Have gone through most automotive shops here in KL and the best I've found so far is Permatex Form-a-gasket 2, i.e. a non-hardening compound but seemingly only recommended for valve covers and oil pans, i.e. not very high pressure.

Therefore any sealant that is too thick will upset the dimension of the machined halves and can effect the crank centering and bearing fit. If done right the anaerobic will be much less than 0.0005″ ( 1/2 part in 10,000).

Said for snowmobiles, atv's, dirtbikes, etc. Thats what I used on my xlt and its seems to be holding up. It was in a grayish tube.

Read MoreLike you its years since a I did a Villiers engine cases, just ensure that the mating faces are flat and go easy on any sealant you use. Too much and it will squish out and inside the crankcase which you don't want to happen. Apply the thinnest of beads closer to the outer face sealing areas, leave to skin over say 4-5 mins then go for assembly.

Read MoreIt's a gray gooey cement used to join the crankcase halves of Yamaha 2/strokes. It doesn't ball up. Any excess inside the engine seems to flatten out and sticks to the side of the crankcases. I use it for any metal to metal sealing jobs where there is no gasket. I use it even if another sealant is called for because it works so well.
